| WINE 101 | STEMWARE
In order for a wine to be fully appreciated and enjoyed, proper stemware must be considered. What actually constitutes proper stemware is open to debate, however, some rules are applicable.
Firstly, a wine glass must be colorless. It musn't have any etchings or textures on its bowl. Keep in mind that wine is also a treat for the eyes! You want to be able to look at it in the glass properly.
Secondly, the opening of any wine glass must be significantly narrower than the maximum diameter of its bowl. White wines should be served in slightly smaller glasses than red. This helps keep white wine cooler longer.
Thirdly, the bead (or rim) around the edge of the opening shouldn't be too intrusive to the mouth (better yet, there shouldn't be a bead).
Finally, a wine glass should be clean—that is to say, it should have no smudges or fingerprints on it. It should also be odorless. Wine glasses should never be stored upside down. This causes off odors to be trapped and collect within the bowl.
Follow these simple guidelines. The rest is up to you.
