Director of Finance - Full-Time

Position Overview

We are currently seeking an experienced and effective Director of Finance with demonstrated leadership ability for one of Canada's most award-winning wineries located in Vaughan, Ontario. Reporting to the President, the Director of Finance will lead the Finance team functions encompassing all financial reporting, budgeting, financial forecasting and management of internal controls necessary to meet the Corporation's financial and operational objectives. This will be coupled with an ability to leverage Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) tax and financial reporting knowledge to provide insightful and strategic contributions to the Corporation and its Executive Team. In addition, this individual must have the ability to champion change, understand effective operational reporting and lead the organization in the adoption of new and emerging technology tools and techniques in the accounting function.

Critical Business Objectives and Requirements

Financial Reporting and Analysis Functions
a) Support Executive Team in making sound business decisions through analysis of information and developing business cases and modelling proposals

b) Oversee the functioning of the Accounting department to ensure the accuracy of company's accounting and other records as well as the timely preparation of relevant financial reports

c) Review all month-end closing activities including General Ledger maintenance, balance sheet reconciliations and corporate overhead cost allocations

d) Ensure legal and regulatory compliance regarding all financial functions as it relates to supporting the organization in meeting its objectives

e) Accurately complete monthly and annual financial statements, month end closings and other reports per established timelines

f) Provide year-end working papers for external auditors; prepare annual budget and business plan; and ensure taxes and annual reporting to government authorities are accurate and on schedule

g) Complete and review monthly bank and trust account reconciliations as well as periodic reconciliation of balance sheet and expense accounts as required to ensure accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP

h) Conduct regular audits of processes and provide timely and insightful analysis and financial information management

People Management
a) Create, develop and foster a high performing Accounting team through empowerment initiatives to increase effectiveness and productivity; support an employee-oriented company culture that emphasizes quality and continuous improvement

b) Promote high levels of employee morale through positive leadership, clear and regular communication and employee recognition

c) Ensure accounting staff complete duties within established deadlines and that staff are adequately trained/cross trained and provided opportunities for new experience and development

Vendor Relationships, Lease Management and Legal Agreements
a) Effectively negotiate contracts to control costs and maximize relationships with Vendors, Property Management and Service Providers

b) Identify and execute strategies to control costs

c) Manage the company's external auditors

d) Co-ordinate and review the company's legal agreements and leases


Qualifications/Education

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance required with an MBA preferred

• CPA or CA Certification required

• 10 + years of Finance Accounting and Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) experience

• 5 + years experience in both traditional retail and/or manufacturing industries 

• Demonstrated leadership experience with ability to champion change
